Lancaster Holden - Singleton began their business over 90 years ago when a 27 year old Harold Earl Lancaster went into business repairing milking equipment in 1918.
It was a loan from a business acquaintance, AB Shaw that helped Harold to establish the business, and a promise of good customer service ensured people repeatedly returned.
Within one year, Harold called on the services of his brother Dick who recently returned from World War I, and soon the company began to sell new Ford, Maxwell & Studebaker vehicles and well as the Republic trucks.
Success continued and the brothers sister, Mrs Blick joined the firm in 1924. In 1927 Lancaster's was appointed the General Motor's dealer in Singleton selling; Pontiac, Chevrolet, & Oakland vehicles, until 1971 when the dealer agreement was not renewed.
In 1938, the second generation of Lancaster's became involved in the business. Don Lancaster son of Dick worked in the company until his retirement in 1987. Harold' son in law George Tisdal also had an impressive record of service, with 45 years in the business, starting from 1939.
Throughout history Lancaster's has survived the threat of two major disasters, the first was a flood in 1955 and the second was a fire in 1971 that tore through the front section of the John street dealership, destroying its structure as well as files.
On completion of the new 80 John street building, in the same year Lancaster's was appointed the Chrysler dealer, this later became known as Mitsubishi.
The current Managing Director Chris Lancaster, son of Don and third generation of Lancaster began with the firm in 1976. Since that time he has seen the company appointed the dealer for: Daihatsu, Holden, Fuso Trucks, & Hyundai.
In 1998, the fourth generation of Lancaster started the business; Mark Lancaster son of Chris started in the Parts department while attending Newcastle Uni and has worked in all departments of the dealership. Mark along with his father Chris has seen the business go from strength to strength.
In May 2006 the Lancaster Holden moved into their state of the art facility on the New England Hwy, the gate way to Singleton. With now Holden, Mitsubishi & Hyundai motor vehicles, the Lancaster Holden is a well know icon in the Hunter Valley motor industry.
Today, the Business is run day to day by the family's fourth generation owner Mark Lancaster. Mark has always been involved with cars, from motor racing, to working in every section of the car dealership, from car detailer through to owner.
The business is a large local employer and has just over 45 staff members. Our goal is 100% customer satisfaction and we want to ensure buying a new car, getting your car serviced or purchasing a part or accessory, is a great experience.
